Unless this has changed, and it might have given other changes where
google groups is concerned, one would subscribe from their mailbox using
name of group the plus sign the word subscribe at google groups.com. for
example,
boogiedown+subscr...@googlegroups.com

This might be the WebVisum plugin for Firefox. I've never used it. I believe
WebKit might be useful for this as well, but again I'm not sure how.
