applications menu does the same thing as it always has for me. It opens the
interface, but you need the Window Chooser menu to get to the TM controls. The

To your first point, every article I've read, whether it's from Apple or
a user, says managing one's backups via Finder is a bad idea because TM
can get confused if something else gains control of its index structure.
To your second point about the interface being the same, indeed it is.
But
If I want to open my time machine disk to see the folders, I u usually look
at it through the Finder. I open the disk and proceed from there.
As far as I can see, the time machine interface looks the same to me. I
just tried this by opening Time Machine from the menu extras while focused
