What should I hear on the home screen? When I hold the watch to the
camera, (front or back?), I do not receive any kind of confirmation.

I've never had to do anything with a reset button. Not sure why you're getting
this. Just make sure the watch is on the home screen.

When I do that I get a reset button. I press it and while waiting, I
bring the watch app up on the iPhone. Turn Voiceover on when watch is
ready. Start the pairing but cannot seem to get the phone to see the watch.

With VoiceOver enabled, do the following:
To turn off the watch, you hold down the flat side button until you feel a
quick double vibration, then release the button.
You then swipe once to Power, and do a one-finger double tap.
Next, swipe right to Power Off, and do another one-finger double tap.

start the pairing process.
I tried holding down the button. Then tried that plus touching the
digital crown. The watch will not turn off.

Hi,
You should be able to turn VoiceOver on by tripple clicking the crown on the
front of the watch.

Well heck, I'd say yes.
But then again, I don't stay very current myself either, LOL. As I just
remembered that my recently deceased partner Michelle had a series 8 that
she put in my area of the room somewhere, that I have to search for.
