I don't think the question is whether the Mac hardware is capable of
running 64 bit win7, I think I triggered the original concern by
telling her that the win7 os would need to be 64 bit in order to make
use of the full 8 gigs of RAM. Thus the issue is whether she has 64
bit version of Win7 install
It's also a little faster.

Yeah, if your hardware is 64bit capable, then you can easily run a 32 bit
system as well.
The laptop I'm using to type this, is running win 7 64bit, but came out with
vista 32bit on it.
My mac book pro has a vm of windows 7 64 bit and that's working in fusion
3.1.
My choice to run 64 bit

While it is true that recent Macs and osx are 64 bit capable, snow leopard
on default is 32 bit. Do not know why Apple decided to put it 32 bit while
saying everywhere that it is 64bit.

If it's a modern Mac either should work. All my macs support 64 bit although
the oldest Mac I have is from September of 2009.

Hi,
And any 64-bit-capable CPU you'll find on a Mac or PC these days can
run either the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the OS.
