funny enough, pressing control and arrows on my virtual machine brings up
dashboard. i have no idea why this is happening since i installed lion.

I've been losing speech often since upgrading to Lion. If I leave my computer
for an hour or two, I can pretty much guarantee that VO will not work. It
takes a while to get it toggled back on as well. Were you using your computer
when speech went away?
