Hello Mark and list,
Thanks.
Now, I need to reformat the SSD, because I really messed it up.
How do I get a complete download on-line.
If I restart the MBP with one of
That is interesting.
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro 15, that I got when my father past away. It is
running El Capitan. Since I don’t use this machine for anything important, I
will give these various options a try, and see what I can learn.

Hi Dan,
I don't believe that you're stuck with Yosemite. To confirm, could you go to
the Apple menu, to About This Mac and let me know exactly what it says about
your Mac. That is, amount of memory, MacOS version, Mac model if available on
that screen. If it's not on that screen, you may nee
Hi Brad,
Not in my experience. I've used cmd-option-r quite a number of times over the
last year or two for various reasons, and it has always taken me back to a much
older system version. For example, I was working on a Mid 2011 iMac (Silver

According to the Mac World article, referenced in the link below, the recovery
keyboard command, COMMAND + OPTION + R, allows for the installation of the
latest version of macOS. The Recovery keyboard command, COMMAND + OPTION +

Hi,
If you use cmd-option-r, you will revert to the MacOS version that originally
came with your Mac. It sounds like, in your case, this was 10.10 Yosemite. If
you've already used this process, and installed Yosemite onto your Mac, then
you will not be able to use regular Recovery Mode (cmd-r
Hi Dan,
Try using Recovery mode via COMMAND + OPTION + R.. This option should allow
you to erase your SSD, and install the latest available version of macOS.
See the link below for an article providing a fuller explanation of Recovery
mode options.

If you do not have the installer that was downloaded to the
applications folder, you can download it from the Mac app store. Then
software update will try to install it but you can quit at that point.
Then create a USB installer with a 16gig stick. Two ways to do that.

Hello Dan,
Tim and others will most likely have a more comprehensive answer but as I have
a mid-2014 MBP running Catalina, I can tell you that Catalina runs on mid-2014
units, perfectly.
I don't know how you updated your Mac but, somewhere during the Mojave
life-cycle, Apple changed the format
