Amazingly enough I had speech unchecked in notifications under preferences, notifications, but under the speech tab I have both Channel name and nickname checked. Now on channel properties for *each* channel under Notifications, I have highlight mention as the selected alert, and nothing else

Devin: Just to clarify, TDSR is sufficiently reliable to do real work in the Mac terminal? I'm assuming one silences VO in preference to TDSR while in the Terminal? I presume there's a way to automate that? I do agree on the IRSSI recommendation. It's a thoroughly powerful and capable IRC client.

Using the terminal with VoiceOver isn't as convenient as we would wish, but the irssi IRC client can be installed and run from a shell prompt on the Mac. If you have Homebrew, you can just install the irssi package and run it from the shell. There may be other accessible options, but at least t

I use Colliquy. It works well but sometimes receive the busy busy busy business from voiceover. A simple unload and reload of voiceover solves this issue. Never used to get it. Others may not have this issues. I like ti because it's got customizable sounds but I know some who don't like the app.
