Hi Mark,
I'm guessing it was not the re-pairing that fixed the problem.
This used to happen to me all the time on my series 1 watch after a work-out.
It seemed as though a little bit of moisture--sweat in my case--got inside
where the speaker is, muffling the sound. That happened to me fairly
Mine usually sounds muffled for a while after it gets wet. It doesn’t happen as
often with the four as it did with that too, but it does happen sometimes. I am
not sure why it happens sometimes not all the time though. Glad yours is back
working again.

Hi Mark,
Had a similar situation with my series 2 watch after swimming in a pool.
But mine lasted 3 days before correcting itself.
I ended up not getting it replaced and sticking with the original.
Weird I know, but hey what do you do.
