Thanks, yeah, that's got it, didn't think of pressing tab - I'm an ex jaws user
and keep forgetting I can use tab with VO in similar situations!!!

Try launching Skype and, when it launches, rather than interacting with
anything, simply try to tab to a field. This seemed to work for me in an
earlier version of Skype and VoiceOver. Worth at least a try.
