Two comments here. While I agree that using the dock and/or launchpad and/or keyboard commander are the best options, some people do put applications on the desktop. But they don't copy or move the actual applications there; instead they create an alias of the application. This is done by selec

I am not sure it is a good idea to use the Desktop, especially as these apps are already on your dock for easy launching. Just press VO D to bring up the Dock, press M for mail and then press enter. Similarly for safari press vo D and then S and press enter again. Also if you turn on apple
