I've always just used option-left/right arrow. Saves me from interacting.

you can use option-right/left arrow.
You can also interact with the text with the VO-keys-shift-down arrow and then
VO-keys-left/right arrow will move you word by word. So, you have two choices,
one specific to VO and one not.

We are using a Mac Book Pro running Leopard. I was under the impression that
in a text edit document one could move a word at a time by using bo left arrow,
or vo right arrow. However, this doesn't seem to work. Is this the incorrect
command?
Remember, this machine is running Leopard not Snow
