Hi,
I find this an accessibility regression. I went ahead and bought a mouse from
apple and connected it to my Mac mini and then did the install. It was a pain.
I feel that having a mouse just to get things going is a regression in my book.

By the way, this is not just an issue with macOS Monterey.
The 24 inch M1 iMac I was setting up was running macOS Big Sur.
Not sure when Apple began requiring that a mouse be connected when setting up
or upgrading a Mac, but it was definitely before macOS Monterey.

Any mouse or trackpad will work. It could be USB, Bluetooth or any thing else.
Just so it connects to the Mac and is recognized by the Mac.

What kind of mouse are we talking about here? Well any off the rack an
expensive USB mouse do the trick or does it need to be some kind of Apple
Bluetooth mouse? I haven’t used one in so long I don’t know what’s out there
anymore or what would be required here.

I had the same issue with the Big Sur install as well. As you said, there is no
way around it, I have to keep a mouse around for that purpose. Once you get to
the install screen you can disconnect it but yes, you will need to connect a
mouse or track pad to continue.

Yup, this has been the case for a while now, at least Big Sur. Connect or make
available a trackpad or mouse in pairing mode, and the blocker will disappear.
You can then proceed without.

You'll run into the same situation if you try to set up a new Mac for the first

trackpad to the Mac. Once you get it set up, you can get rid of the mouse or
trackpad, but you've got to have it to get the thing going the f
