Sorry, my statement about sort was backwards. Just as an FYI.
sort -n sorts everyone in a file with the assumption that the first word is a
number.
Sort -r would sort largest to smallest or reverse alphabetical order.
There are also option in the sort command to sort using a specific column or

Hi
when I have had issues with disk space and I didn't know where, I always use
the "du" command. Generally using it with the "-s" option. So in the terminal:
du -s *
| sort -n
will produce a sorted list with all items in the current folder with the
largest ones at the top.
Best wishes,
Hi!
I actually don’t know but i can go and check that.

that became available in High Sierra to clean the downloads
our machine that have large data sets

Hi,
If the Home folder is properly set within Users & Groups of System Prefs, then
the iCloud Desktop and Documents syncing will also point towards the Home
folder on the external. If this is a portable Mac, with Time Machine enabled,
then there could be snapshots using up space. I'm willing

A couple of things to think about.
1. Has the trash been emptied.
2. Is iCloud using up a bit of that space? If iCloud sync process keeps files
opened then even if they

Hello,
Sorry, but I don’t have the answers to this. I know the general concepts but I
have never tried to move a home directory with a system as managed as MacOS is.

1. Has the trash been emptied.
2. Is iCloud using up a bit of that space? If iCloud sync process keeps files
opened then even if they are deleted they will not free up disk space until
all open file systems for the disk are closed. (perhaps reboot).
