The numbers 1 thru 6 aren’t really there. They are identifiers for the spaces where digits from the code number are to be entered. I have done this procedure several times, and have found the process to be very simple and VoiceOver accessible. Perhaps you should contact Apple Accessibility for

ok, wow, now this makes sense - so if I understand you, after receiving my code from my iPad, I enter it in my mac book air by listening for the number 1, and then enter the first number of my code, and then go to number 2 and put in the second number of the code etc …right? Ok I will try this.

NO, I am afraid you are getting it all wrong. The 1 through 6 that you are talking about are the 6 slots to put your passcode in. Just like on the device that received your confirmation code, you can swipe right to read each individual number of the code, so on the input side you can swipe right
