Yes. This is a bug that I have seen, not only on the Mac, but also on my iPhone
and iPad. Just ended the call and call the person back. The bug appears to be
in credibly prevalent on the Mac, to the point that it nearly makes FaceTime
audio impossible to use.

when using face time on el capitan, the person whom I was talking to started
sounding quite strange. their voice began to muffle to the point of sounding
demonic.
I only started noticing this after updating. Has anyone else noticed this?
