Hmm, I would think one could do this with AppleScript Create link and save .
Of course if we are going to hit applescript then with UI programming, one
could just initiate the drag / drop of the ICON in the address bar.

The only way I could figure out how to make Web locations without using
drag and drop was to create one in a text editor. I just open TextEdit,
make sure I'm in plain text mode and then paste in the following text:
"http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd";>
URL
http://www.aol.com

You can manually create a web shortcut file by using TextEdit in plain
text mode and typing or pasting in three lines. I'll paste in text
from the post I made earlier this year, in answer to a query on how
to create such a web shortcut file for the bard site.

I'm setting up an old iMac for my daughter for school It has Snow Leopard
installed on it.
I need to place certain bookmarks on the desktop for her to make it easier for
