I actually tried to record some programs from a swedish internet radio station.
I found it reasonably accessible.

Yes to both. Go to audacity.sourceforge.net to download it. You'll mostly use
shortcut keys and the menus; the visual interface is marginally usable at best.
Once you know those keys, though, you'll do fine.
