Pay attention to whether it’s a Facetime Audio call or just Facetime. If it’s
audio, you’re good to go, if it’s Facetime, that’s the video version and while
I know you can turn the camera off once in a call, I’m not sure you can answer
without video. If they insist on vido, use the link method

On my MacBook, I found if I go into “Contacts app” I can select “Audio or
Video” FaceTime calling.
On the iPhone,in phone contacts I too can select “Audio or Video” when making a
FaceTime call,
