This should not be so difficult. Everything I found in Google searches says 'save' from the markup dialog but there is no such thing. What I found is in the Share dialog where I tried Preview. That gave me the save option. I did find what you need when using cmd-shift-4. Press the space

Yep it gets strange until that markdown thing is clicked. But I am still not getting it.When I click the desired window, the markdown comes up, I click it, I get the options and since none seem to apply, I click the done button and things go away. Some of my attempts give me 'system dialog'

In Mojave cmd-shift-5 brings up a menu. I checked the options and screenshots should be saved to desktop. Cmd-shift-4 should take a screenshot of a window. Cmd-ctrl-shift-4 should take one and save it to desktop. Neither this nor using the menu via cmd-shift-5 works for me. Any thoughts?
