I had this problem earlier this year and the cause for me was the mouse was following the cursor. I unchecked that and my problem has never come back. I don't remember ever turning that on but I shut it off just the same. In VO, I have everything following everything else except for the mouse.

Sounds like you dismounted your drive. You can either unplug and plug it back in, power cycle it, or use Disk Utility to find the drive and mount it again. If you go the Disk Utility route you'll just launch Disk Utility from the Utilities folder (shift-option-U in finder) then find the dive in
