My recommendation would be list recorder. You could do your to do
lists as either recordings or as a text list as List Recorder does both. It
also now has do dates available. I suspect you might find it useful in

You don't actually need the keys down when you turn on the power button.
Simply press the power button, quickly get your hands/fingers in place, then
press the cmd+option+"p"+"r" as the startup chime sounds.

If you are using GMail with IMAP then you probably have those messages stored
on GMail' servers.
You can confirm this by going to GMail's Web interface and looking for the
messages.
If you find them, you don't need to worry with copying messages to the Mac.
