Hi all,
I know this has been discussed on prior threads, so I apologize for the repost.
I just wanted to ask what you would recommend to read Spanish E-mails. A

Hi Al. This doesn't directly answer your question, but what I do is set growl
to use the Speech display style. This will cause all notifications to be
spoken by growl itself. I use the zarvox voice to differentiate growl messages
from anything that VO might say.

Are messages from the growl Helper App readable with VO? I'm using several
apps which generate growl messages. When they occur, VO voices the fact that
a Growl Helper App Dialog is present, but I can't see any way to interact
with it and read it.
Thanks,

Thanks everyone for your responses. I will check out those podcasts
everyone has recommended. I feel much better with the decision to
switch to mac now, especially after Kevin's experience as a graduate
student.
I'm sure I will have more questions as I go but thanks for the start.

I'm a new Mac user, and will never go back to Windows. The things to keep in

This all sounds good. If you learn apple script you can get the same

For some reason Jaws is very soft relative to Voiceover such that I have
to set the VO speech volume to about 20% to get them roughly matched. Is
there anything else I should be checking? I poked at a number of things
on the VMWare and Windows side and they are all set to max or 100%.

a related question,
I want to shorten the verbage that vo announces when moving through the
files.
I unchecked show extention, but that had no effect. kind of weird.

Makes sense. You could also use "Go To Folder" under the Go menu and
type the path, including the hidden folder, into the prompt which would
then open it in the finder. Then you don't need to hide and unhide the

I think there was a problem with the last version too. I used to be able to
dictate but, now when I try, it capturs some weird text. Perhaps I have
forgotten how to use it since it has been a while.

Hi CB,
In this case, a friend asked me if he could have the voice file from my
rockboxed sansa E200 series. The .rockbox directory where that file resides
was hidden, so I needed to unhide that folder to get the voice file.
Then of course, I hid the files again because to be honest they are in

There is also a problem with Google Groups. Sometimes, when you join a list,
however you set it, it will not send you any email. I'm afraid I think they
could be the problem. I have spam set to be delivered so I can check it
myself!
