r a G4, G5, or Intel processor, but those can't be too numerous.
Even with all that, it isn't like the scale would be as massive as
Debian.
If work is being done to implement this, how advanced is it? Could we
expect to see it soon?

/System/Library/LaunchDaemons. Removing these files is not covered in
the MacPorts uninstall instructions on the wiki. The instruct the user
to remove /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.* . So my
question is, should avahi install files named as such? Or should it
install them as "org.macport

Any suggestions on working around the following error?
morla:/Users/jsumners root# port -fd install gnome-desktop
DEBUG: Found port in
file:///opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/ports/gnome/gnome-desktop
DEBUG: Changing to port directory:

would much rather we continue working on perfecting that, rather than

I don't understand. The point of binary packages is so that you, the
end user, do not have to build them yourself. Thus eliminating the
compile errors and making it an easier system to use.

Would someone with some authority take a look at this ticket. I don't
think the maintainer is much caring about it. I've added a portfile
patch to the ticket.

So, is there any way I can "jail" a new installation of macports? If I
can build everything successfully, I want to be able to delete the old

Maybe the port is out-of-date. It wouldn't surprise me.
