Really interesting post and replies, thankyou. I love it when something
provokes the considered responses of extremely well informed people.
I would just say that I really don't consider the OP's concerns to be
tinfoilhattery. In light of recent revelations, it would actually be
irresponsible to be

Hi -- I've been trying to install GCC 4.6.1 from the Portfile that someone
submitted to the ticket requesting that the port be updated, here:
https://trac.macports.org/ticket/29184
I've got it to the point where it is installing, but then it fails with
this:
---> Computing dependencies for gcc46
I was using EMACS, so typed "sudo emacs macports.conf" to open up the file

http://guide.macports.org/#development.local-repositories) to try to install
GCC 4.6.1 on my Mac.

get this error:
Error: Unable to execute port: could not read

Hi -- the port of GCC 4.6 has been at prerelease BETA for a long time, now.
Is it considered usable?
Is anyone using it for C++ development on a Mac?
Are they using the C++11 features successfully?

Hi -- I've been trying to compile the latest GCC (4.6.0) on my Snow Leopard
machine, without much success.
So I was wondering if there was a working port of this expected any time
soon?
If not, could whoever got the beta to work (assuming it hasn't the same
problems my own attempts to install 4.6 s
