I created a local repository for a couple of port files and included them
in the database using the portindex command. If I remove a port from my
local repository, do I just run the portindex command again to remove it
from the port database?
Thanks

Both of these responses helped me understand dependents and
dependenciesmuch better.
Thanks

I am confused what "port uninstall --follow-dependents " or is it
"--follow-dependencies" will uninstall? For example, if I enter "port
dependents inkscape", Macports replies there are no dependents. On the
other hand, "port deps inkscape" lists a large number of library dependents

I received an error with pythonw3.1 and python3.1 but changed it to python2.6
and it ran. So I get it now. What is the difference between python2.6 and
pythonw2.6?

I've got Python 3.1 installed by macports. I want to set up Python
Launcher. Is this the correct path to add to my preferences,
/opt/local/bin/pythonw3.1? The only reason I ask is that this is an alias.

As I was trying to understand a universal build I built a few ports again
as universal. No sense on my machine and for example when I do a *port list
installed* I get three versions of boehmgc all with the same version number,

Thanks for your input. I'll look into bash-completion. I didn't want to
cause an inadvertent change in my macports setup.

When I installed Macports my machine was configured with tcsh as the

Easy to do but my question is what do I need to change in my Macports
setup? It looks like I'll need to add the Macports path to my ~/.profile
Ryan, I wondered what the subports were for. got it. thanks

Trying to run Tesseract 3.01 as setup by Macports on an uncompressed tif
file that is one column of text. The first error was "error opening

there. I downloaded and opened tesseract-ocr-3.01.eng.tar.gz and put the

I'll file the ticket and edit the port file as a stopgap measure. I was
