Hi Dom, Sounds like a good idea, especially if the message only prints on Lion.
Note that Macports 2 was released before Xcode was even on the App Store.
Sometimes it takes a bit of time to catch up (aka patches appreciated).
This all may change by tomorrow if 10.7.2 and Xcode 4.2 get released
Can't MacPorts be more precise and write this in the error message?
" Xcode is not installed. If you bought it on the AppStore, you only downloaded
it. Start "Install Xcode.app" in your applications folder."
I know it feels like holding users by the hand but sometimes that better ;)
Take care

I don't see an atlas port either, weird. I selfupdated.

Sorry...I forgot to choose Reply to all in GMail...The following is my
post again...
You want the package alone? I met similar problem when I was trying to
install Octave, which depends on atlas by default. But disabling atlas
variant while enabling accelerate variant seems work...

Hi,
Sorry, new to MacPorts, I feel like this must be a stupid question, but I
can't figure out why when I try "sudo port install atlas", it says:
Error: Port atlas not found
I just installed MacPorts on a fresh MacOSX Lion install (MacBook Pro, Intel
Core 2 Duo CPU). I ran "port selfupdate" just

I downloaded Xcode from https:/
Hi Tim
A common issue is that downloading Xcode from the Mac Apple Store only installs
an "Install Xcode 4.1" application , you also need to manually install the
Xcode from that app.
Check you have a /Developer/Applications/Xcode and tell us what version it is?

FYI: Using OSX Lion on 2011 mac mini.
I am brand new to OSX and macs.
I am a long-time linux user, programmer and comfortable with the

I downloaded Xcode and installed it (or so I thought). Now when I
attempt to install macports I get the following error message:

hello,
i went to there https://trac.macports.org/wiki/MisbehavingServers
and there https://trac.macports.org/wiki/FAQ#checksums
i did that
sudo port selfupdate
$ sudo port clean --dist gzip
$ sudo port install gzip
and it WORKED !

You may want to review the installation instructions. In particular
there are links near the very top to the pkg installers, which might
be easier...

Hi everyone.
I tried to install macports on mac os x 10.6.8. The setup went fine.
When i tried to update via the command "sudo port -v selfupdate",
it crashes saying that is needed libcurl 7.x.x, but it found version 6.x.x.
How can I install libcurl 7.x.x to use macports?
Thanks
Arnaldo Pirrone
In any event I disinstalled X11 on macport and gimp magically started to
regularly work. As it comes out apparently I add two x11 installations that
somehow they conflicted.
