First, a partial resolution: on a lark I tried installing gconf, which was able
to install eggdbus. I have no idea why this should be the case, but I'm not
going to argue with success.

mysql5-devel is at 5.5.2-m2 (12 Feb 2010) - whereas the latest 5.5 GA is 5.5.11
