The first linked worked for me in that I could install the 7/19 version.
The 7/19 version didn't seem to address the problem I was hoping it would
address though - submodule folders not showin

I think I experienced similar issues. Ended up that m2e scm integration
was renaming my sub project folders. That was causing all kinds of
problems.
Perhaps this could be your problem as well? I filed an issue and a
candidate patch for it.
