I'm using 1.5.2, and I have cross references in my document.
There are four options for the output format:

First of all, I spent hours testing and rereading the documentation
trying to figure out why my "Formatted reference"s didn't behave

had a better idea: have a format option that outpus *just the label
(in brackets)*.
Then I can put whatever ERT I want around it. It violates the LyX-not-LaTeX
principle,
in that its use forces ERT, but it's the best idea I've had all morning.

In v1.3, Elsevier articles could have their thanks references made through an
optional argument, as seen in this post:
