no figures in lyx 1.5.1 with Ubuntu7.10

I just re-install ubuntu 7.10 with lyx 1.5.1 as given by this distribution. Now I get no illustrations within any lyx text, even with the "user guide". However the text, and the figures appear correctly in DVI or postscript. I suppose I need to add something (but what??) to my Ubuntu configuration.
