I assume it was just a temporary problem (KDE) that was fixed by debian
testing quickly. xdg-open works again.

I updated my CV, saved it, and tried to compile it using pdflatex. The
reported error is:
! LaTeX Error: File `moderncvcolors.tex' not found.
However, that file is present:
$ locate moderncvcolors.tex
/usr/local/texlive/2024/texmf-dist/tex/latex/moderncv/moderncvcolors.tex
