Since this discussion is turning to matters of taste, what do you think
about the font choices? The default font is obviously dated, if

I'm writing mine as we speak. I have chosen memoir and never turned
back. Basic stuff is basic, works perfectly with LyX and its layout is
very nice. A big library on chapter title styles is a plus. I have
tried Koma before, but never liked it completely. R is a must for nice
plots, as well as Inks
I also, couldn't agree more. I tend to hide my modifications as new
document classes ... but front-matter should be finger painted. After
that, though, I don't want to see or think about ERT.

bitmap graphics. Personally I prefer R.

If you want your chapters to start a new page, use book. Else, use report. I'd
recommend KOMA book/report, since it comes with sensible default, but is
nevertheless very flexible, if you need it.

Dear Lyx users,
I'm stressed by time (lack of it) because I need to write my thesis. However,
due to the fact that Lyx produces nice quality documents I really want to do
this. I'm new to Lyx and I therefore don't want to fiddle with too low level

My thesis will be simple, a fron
