Good news-- I saw Uwe's note that the standard installer for 1.6.5 for Windows is now finally available. So I uninstalled Lyx once again, and using the standard installer was able to install and run Lyx on both Windows XP machines, on which the altinstaller was giving me such a hard time. I no
