Ok after a full night of head scratching & hitting
wall, i discovered what produced this nasty phenomena:
when i pasted in a editor the .lyx snippet from the
german .lyx file, the editor automatically changed the
_fileencoding_ of the file from latin1 to utf-8. So
the files looked _exactly_ t
I add two semi-minimal examples of a well encoded
.lyx file and a bad encoded one. Note that both
display correctly encoded characters when viewed
directly with vi, but they look screwed in badenc.lyx
Im totally inept to find a difference between the
headers of both files :-(

document, before doing the copy exporting the document
