i will try the hack with a new file, but i think i will stick to the
"Format>Paragraph Dialog" option with my thesis for now :-)

Also is there a way i can set this as a rule for all figures.
AFAIK, unfortunately, not.
As a hack, you can redefine the latex command that insets the graphics
to
include a center.
From Herbert Voss' Tips & Tricks, (http://www.texnik.de)
add the following to your preamble
\makeatletter

By default, none of the pictures are centered. You have to go to the
paragraph containing the pi
Hi,
Some of the figures that i insert in LyX are not centered in the

to center the figures? Also is there a way i can set this as a rule

Hi Rich and Günter
Thanks for the tip. (How did I miss it?!)

1. Unfortunately, there is no generic option to center images in floats.

Try Format -> Paragraph -> Center

Hi List
I am trying to center all images included in floats (in a document) and
change the font size of their captions. What is the code to be included
in the preamble?
By the way, my Lyx refuses to center the images when I use the 'center'
option in the Insert|Graphics|Rotation tab|Origin: Cen

Indeed. And on Herbert's pages there is a tip on how to center all figures at
once:

What is the preferred way to center an included graphic (say an EPS
file) inside a figure float? Currently I have to first insert the image
and then go to Layout->Paragraph->Alignment->Center, which (without
the availability of a keyboard shortcut) is very cumbersome.

I have resolved using the gnuplot 'set origin' command. Thanks.

Do you know the difference between a yankee and a damyankee?
A yankee comes south to *_visit*.

Correct the bounding box of the eps file, e.g. with epscro

you don't need en ERT command to make it centered.

you do not need this ERT command for cent
I have generated a .tex file pointing to an auxiliary file .ps with
gnuplot. I have inputted this file in a figure float. How can I center the
figure?
With figures exported in both latex and postscript by xfig, I simply
surrounded the inputted file with the latex commands

This mail answers a trivial question I have asked times ago:
how can one center .latex figures in a float?
This answer is quite obvious, but may help.
It suffices to insert a \center in ERT right before the figure,
within the float.
