Ah, ok, thanks, I missed that "M" to "A" change mentioned in mac.bind
somehow. I was defining "M-m" in the bind file, and mistaking that to mean
"Option-m", but once I defined "A-m" it worked as expected by using
"Option-m," and it overrode the system's special character behavior. Thanks

I should also mention that this behavior can't be overriden by adding Meta
shortcuts to my .bind file, so even the solution originally proposed (adding
each Meta- shortcut to the bind file) won't work. That is, if I assign a
shortcut to "M-m" and then try to use Option-m from LyX, it still inserts
Hi Bart -
Thanks for your suggestion, but (no surprise here) this is yet another of
Apple's regrettable design decision that users have no ability to easily
change. The system preferences have no controls for this behavior. There is
probably some obscure plist file somewhere that controls this beh
Hi,
if I understand it right, you want to modify the mac keybindings. These
you won't find in lyx of course, but in your mac keyboard preferences.
Perhaps there is an option to allow a program override the mac shortcuts? I
actually really can't say, 'cause I use linux here. Otherwise you really
Sorry to have asked too early ;-)
I goofed again, essentially i made an elementary typo (\bind-file
instead of \bind_file)
Wish all of you a good, i.e. healthy and peaceful new year

You can't. What you have to do is play

No :) I do not know what the right fix is in this case... What I
propose is just a stopgap. I'd be interested to know whether it helps in
your case.

I can't solve your problem... but I can point out that what works in your shell
won't work for LyX, 'cause X uses a different map than the console does--
its a whole different ballgame in X.
Maybe you need to throw some bindings or something into your lyxrc?
Sorry for the lame answer-- no doub
