Well, there are lots of bibliography styles out there. I am most familiar
with achicago, since that is what I use day-to-day. Doing
\usepackage{achichicago}
in the preamble and specifying "achicago" for your bibstyle gives you the
command
\shortciteA{key}
to produce a citation with an abbre
