I use this in the preamble:
\let\oldmarginpar\marginpar
\renewcommand\marginpar[1]{\-\oldmarginpar[\raggedleft\footnotesize #1]%
{\raggedright\footnotesize #1}}
and it works like a charm :). I guess you could use another size instead of
footnotesize, but it seem to about right for me :)
