At least when you save as .eps in Stardraw it is essential to click the
"selected" option in the save-dialog. Othervise it saves the whole page as
an eps-

Well you can print a PS image and then use ps2epsi to convert it to EPS.

What is a 'cad-like snapping function'? You could pin lines to corners
of rectangles for instance...

I am "yet another LyX new user" writing the Phd thesis. I read your comments on
image formats... but my problems are still not solved.
I need to create EPS images (especially graphs and schemas) to be imported in
LyX; I tried:
1) xfig: it lacks of cad-like snapping function
2) killustrator
