Kurt, I also had exactly that problem for a long time on my Mac. It has to do with the Fonts in your ~/Library/Fonts directory. For some bizarre reason some LaTeX installations put their own fonts there which results in the display of these characters. I solved it by removing all fonts from ~/Lib

Hi together, I typed my thesis using LyX (1.4.1) on my Apple PowerBook. When I open the LyX file on my PC (1.4.1)some special characters are displayed wrong: in math mode the greek letter sigma is shown as 1/4, \mu as superscript 1 and so on. So I guess that this is related with a different encodi
