cmaple9.5.exe? What is Lyx trying to run when it receives a computer
algebra command involving maple? I could always make an additional
copy of the relevant exe under a new name, if I know which of the
various maple exe's lyx wanted.
Thanks for any help here!
ince it doesn't seem to enter itself into the path (also, a
couple of lines in configure.py referring to maple seem to be commented out).

There's a correction on the tex4ht BugFixes page. The correct command is
(apparently)
htlatex filename "xhtml, ooffice" "ooffice/! -cmozhtf" "-coo"

If this is really important to you, you might take a look at GNU-TeXMacs.
This is (close to) WYSIWYG. The downside is that I'm not clear that you
have access to all the myriad latex packages you can use with Lyx - at
least not without some hacking.

For me, the disappointment was that the placement of big operators like
\sum and \int hasn't been fixed (can anyone confirm this?). Presumably this
is because Ruurd is still using the same edition of Qt, and it's a Qt, not
really a lyx, problem.
--------

Just in case you hadn't noticed: ruurd has a distribution of 1.3.3
available. (Haven't tried it yet, still downloading).

The good news is that it goes away as soon as you actually provide some
text for your material. I added just 1 line "this is some text" to each of
the divisions, and the page break was where it should be.

One thought: did you by any chance install aspell.exe into your lyx
directory (or perhaps into your path)? Ruurd's distribution contains only
aspell.dll and he writes "the aspell executable is useless for LyX".

you install all its fonts, too? Otherwise try adding to the end of
