That sounds like the same problem that I was having. Paul Borgermans sent
me the following and it worked for me.

me I load a file. I upgraded to lyx version 1.1.6fix3
and that didn't seem to make any difference. The problem only occurs in the
editing mode, when I view DVI or postscript the figures are OK.
I am using SuSE Linux 7.1.
