I find it really nice to use for that purpose. And there’s no need to install
TeX and/or export to LaTeX if all you are using it for is to take notes.

I just installed LYX for windows. Everythink worked fine until I changed the
user interface to something other than default. Next time I ran LYX menus
are disappeared. Hence, I am not able to undo the action. Could you please

m not sure about cantillation marks and punctuation marks, I never
used those.

Have you thought of using a diffrent package like picins or wrapfig.
You'll have to use a minimal ERT for those, though. I think that picins
is the most robust, although I'm no expert.
