There's also XYpic, very suitable for knots and the like. I've seen a
book soon to be published by Miguel Carrión & John Baez, and the
graphics are pretty.

I have no problems exporting PostScript (.ps) with Sketch 0.6.8. The
files can be used afterwards with LyX. My Sketch comes from a
standard Debian Woody installation, FYI.
Sketch is evolving towards being a very good program, :).
