You get "folder location cannot contain spaces" even when the path to folder is
something like D:\temp, which contains no spaces? (I assume you are on Windows.)

yes, I was talking about the OTF version of the TeX Gyre fonts.
Installing them in ~/.

This is included in what I mean with "system wide". We have access to
all fonts known to your OS.
