The Beamer package fixes the page dimensions and margins. Assuming you output
to PDF, you can stretch or shrink the slides when you present them by screwing

Why I wish it were so:
I'm using Linux, but I have installed it in the occasional Windows
system. The install is not like other Windows programs, there are
lots of ways people get it wrong and have to start over. I'

What I usually do is generate the PDF with the equations, open the PDF
with Inkscape and save them as GIFs or PNGs.
Sounds cumbersome, but beats the hell out of mathtype!

I made Lyx find texlive 2011 binaries, by runnning it from the command
prompt. Nonetheless, the problem is still there:
