I just reread the information on the mathtex page. You are correct; I
was mistaken. I was confusing mathtex with jsMath.

Hi,
Then, you probably know that for a single caption, all you do is mark it
(with the mouse), go to the 'ab' button (text style) and change the font
size.
I don't know how to automatically do it for all the document.
But I'm sure it is possible.
Probably a preamble command type.

Make a symbol using ALT+code, and insert

to see where LyX stops the import ?
Alternatively, try to export back to see where the import stops.

Why not
$^\circ$, or
\usepackage{gensymb}
\degree
I like the output of these commands better than the Alt+0176 symbol.
