There may be a simple solution to this, but I've been unable to find one
anywhere.
Using Natbib author-year style in Lyx 1.5.6 and Koma-script article, I
select a citation style like this (Firstname Surname, year). This looks fine
within Lyx.
Exporting to pdf or dvi makes the citation style

I find that the best way to do this is print the graph to a pdf file, you can
find out how to do this via a quick google search. You can then edit the pdf
in any vector graphics program to save it as an eps which will not decline
in quality as it is resized - Boffinboy

Instead of third-party extensions you might be safer
