I believe your comment refers to the Latex fonts, right?
My problem is actually a problem with the on-screen fonts only - after
compiling it looks nice; already in the instant-preview!
Only on screen it will always replace my greek characters - and
changing the screen fonts does not help!

Why would I want to do so? It's because of the page headings.

One problem I had with Origin figures is that they would not show in lyx.
The would produce output, but the lyx converter would croak and the pdf
converter would croak. Turned out to be a problem with the bounding box. I
loaded the pic in ghostscript and used the PS->EPS feature and that did the

i'm running a fresh debian-sarge installation (with kde 3.2.3). packages
installed are tetex-bin, tetex-base, tetex-extra, lyx,lyx-common lyx-qt.
i launched lyx and it opens this "welcome-screen". just for testing-purposes,

If I trash the LyX.app bundle, can I use Ronald Florence's
self-installing binary to get a clean reinstall of LyX? Does anyone know
whether this self-installing binary first checks for files that the
pervious installation may have left behind?
