On Sun workstation keyboards the key is two keys to the
right of the space bar. I believe the xmodmap program can be used to
map another key to the function of the key on keyboards
which lack a dedicated key.

I bet that would work if I could find the compose key! The only mention of
it I can find in the docs (by grepping the lyx/doc dir for "compose key")
is in FAQ 8.2. And it's one of the few items with no answer! :-(

I'm really not certain on the proper terminology, but is there a way to
create landscape book signatures in LyX/LaTeX? Perhaps a little ASCII art

To be honest, your document didn't teach me much.
I'm a LyX user, with no knowledge of how to operate in LaTeX. I just want
to be able to use fonts other than Roman, Sans Serif and Typewriter. Those
are the only fonts appearing in the 'Character Style' box.
I have tons of other fonts installed o

With latex, you can use any Postscript font (and with pdflatex, you can also
use trutype fonts).
